Leaving My Comfort Zone: Studying Abroad in the UK (Week 1!)

Описание: This mini vlog captures pieces of my study abroad experience in the UK during my first week. Moments that felt ordinary at the time but ended up meaning so much more. From learning new bus routes and navigating unfamiliar cities to finding comfort in small routines, this experience pushed me out of my comfort zone in ways I didn’t even realize I needed.

Studying abroad wasn’t just about traveling or seeing new places, it was about learning how to exist confidently in a completely new environment. Figuring out public transportation, adapting to a new pace of life, and trusting myself to handle the unknown helped me grow in independence, resilience, and self-belief. Every wrong bus, long walk, and quiet moment of observation became part of the learning process.

I am incredibly grateful to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program for making this experience possible. Without Gilman, studying abroad would not have been financially accessible for me. Their support didn’t just help me travel, but it opened the door to personal growth, cultural exchange, and opportunities that will continue to shape my future. I am so thankful for the mission Gilman has to expand access to global education and uplift students who might not otherwise have these opportunities.

To future study abroad students: don’t underestimate the small challenges. Learning how to get around, ask questions, and sit with discomfort is where so much growth happens. Be patient with yourself, say yes to new experiences (even the quiet ones), and remember that you don’t have to have everything figured out to belong somewhere new.
