One of the most famous and photographed trees in the UK has been cut down in an act of 'mindless vandalism'.
Pictures have emerged of the Sycamore Gap tree on Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland, lying on the ground with just the stump remaining in the ground.
It is clear that the tree has been felled by a chainsaw rather than being hit by high winds due to the marks on the trunk, the Mirror reports.
A police investigation has now been launched.
