Women Brewing Beer in History, Africa, and Rwanda
Rwanda has recently been ranked the Best Place to be a Woman in Africa, according to the Global Gender Gap Report, ranked 9th overall in the world in terms of closing gender gaps, and 4th in the world for women's political empowerment. It is also one of the most encouraging and supportive places to be a female entrepreneur in Africa. Rwanda is highly progressive in seeing entrepreneurship as a key driver for transformation, economic development and business growth in its country, particularly for women.
Kweza Craft Brewery is the first female led craft brewery in Rwanda (the first craft brewery at all in the country!). In this workshop, we'll cover the role of women in brewing throughout history (it's not a German, American thing!), the growing craft beer scene in Africa, and starting Rwanda's first craft beer brewery, with women in the lead.
Speakers will include Apiwe Nxusani-Mawela, the first Black female Brewmaster in South Africa, and owner of Brewster's Craft; Chiedza Mufunde, Beer Aficionada, and Kweza Brewer; and Jessi Flynn, Kweza Managing Director.
