Proverbs 15:1

A soft answer—calm, measured, humble—can disarm rage. It breaks cycles of escalation, defuses tension, and restores dignity. Beneath gentleness lies immense strength: the ability to control one’s tongue even when provoked.
But a harsh word—sharp, loud, contemptuous—pours fuel on anger. It inflames emotions, provokes retaliation, and creates wounds that may never fully heal. Many conflicts begin not with actions, but with words.

History shows the power of this principle.
During the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis brought the world to the brink of nuclear destruction. It was restrained, measured communication—not aggression—that prevented catastrophe. A soft answer turned away wrath at a global scale.
By contrast, rash and harsh rhetoric has sparked countless wars, revolutions, and feuds—most famously the chain of insults and provocations that helped ignite World War I. Harsh words stirred up anger, and anger erupted into tragedy.

This proverb is not just wisdom for the wise—it is survival for the world.
Softness is strength.
Harshness is destruction.
