Описание: Description and example of progressive shifting. The biggest problem I've found students have when driving is they over-rev, probably because they're use to gasoline (car) engines that develop power at twice the rpm of diesel engines. If a student can address this and utilize the tach for up or down shifting until they learn to know what certain rpms sound like- they will succeed at smooth shifting. (P.S. I think that an 8 spd transmission in a semi is ridiculous because the rpm spread between the gears is greater than the power band of the engine. I believe 18 spd transmissions are best because a driver only uses the gears required for the load being pulled- a 150,000 gvw may req. 16 gears where-as an mt truck/ trailer combo may only req. 8 gears- thus having more gears/speeds makes the truck more versatile. As for examples of shifting 8, 10 or 18 spd transmissions-there is no difference, the procedure is exactly the same regardless of which gear you upshift or downshift into- the only difference is that you will have 1 to 3 range settings because there are only 6 transmission slots available.
