STORYLINE:
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held a rare two-hour face-to-face meeting with Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Cairo on Sunday.
Ali Larijani travelled to Cairo for a meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).
Larijani left Tehran on Sunday morning to attend the Cairo meeting along with other delegates from Turkey, Kuwait, Niger, Azerbaijan, and Uganda, as well as Egypt.
The two day meeting intended to revise the Union's charter.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Larijani said reports of a diplomatic standoff with Iraq had been exaggerated after armed Iranians took over a remote oil well in a disputed area on the Iraqi-Iranian border on Thursday.
He was echoing earlier Iranian accusations that foreign media had tried to undermine ties between the two countries.
The reported standoff ended peacefully on Sunday as Iranian forces pulled back from the disputed site.
Soldiers escorted about a dozen oil workers back to well number 4 on the al-Fakkah oil field after Iranian forces withdrew overnight.
Iraqi soldiers planted the Iraqi flag on the well where Iran's flag had flown during the dispute.
Both Iran and Iraq claim parts of al-Fakkah as their own.
Located about 200 miles (about 320 kilometres) southeast of Baghdad, the oil field has an estimated 1.5 billion barrels in reserves.
Larijani said he and the Egyptian president had discussed regional matters of mutual concern.
He also said Iran "rejects" any threats posed on his country by Israel.
"We reject the idea of any Israeli attack on Iran as they had failed with in Lebanon and Gaza before," Larijani said.
Larijani will hold talks with his Egyptian counterparts and other leading officials during his stay in Cairo.
