This video explores one of the most fundamental questions about society that most of us never stop to ask: Did we actually agree to any of this?
We're constantly told "this is the deal" and "we all agreed" to the social contract that governs our lives. But when you really think about it, when did you sign up? When did anyone ask for your consent?
You were born into a world where the rules already existed. The laws, the systems, the expectations, the norms - they were all here before you arrived. Everyone acts like there was some collective agreement, but you don't remember being part of that conversation.
Sure, the rules seem to work. Society functions. People cooperate. Things get done. But does that make it a real agreement, or is it just something everyone assumes because it's always been this way?
This isn't about rejecting society or being contrarian. It's about sitting with an uncomfortable truth: the foundation of our social order might rest on an agreement that nobody actually made. We inherited a system and were told it was consensual, but consent requires a choice.
The deal works, mostly. But that doesn't answer the deeper question. If you never said yes, if you were never given a real choice, what does that mean about the legitimacy of the rules you're expected to follow?
Some questions don't have easy answers. This might be one of them. But it's worth thinking about.
