For starters, access to the outdoors. If you ask any local Idahoan they’ll likely give you a long list of outdoor activities they enjoy: hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, just to name a few. Boise is known for its proximity to these activities. The Boise Greenbelt is a 25-mile path that’s perfect for walking, running, or biking without even having to leave the city limits.

If you’re up for a little more of a drive, residents can enjoy nearby areas like Bogus Basin for skiing and snowboarding, or the surrounding foothills for hiking and camping. If you like the outdoors in a more laid back way, head over to one of Boise’s many parks like Julia Davis, or Camel’s Back which both offer places to relax, enjoy picnics, or sometimes even have community events.

Next, the community and the culture of Boise, and Idaho overall is something to marvel at. While Boise is the largest city in the state, and the capital city, it still offers up a friendly, small-town feel. Boise has a strong sense of community.
While outdoorsy hobbies might be the most prevalent, if the arts are more your vibe, there’s plenty to see and do. Boise has cultural experiences like the Boise Philharmonic, local art galleries, and the Boise Art Museum. The city also hosts festivals like Treefort Music Festival and has community events like Art in the Park, and seasonal farmers markets.
And lastly, when you think of Idaho I’m sure you think of potatoes, and while we are the largest potato producer in the country, we offer up more to eat than just that! Boise has a growing food scene, with a variety of restaurants offering everything from fine dining to farm-to-table options to local craft breweries, food trucks, and even sushi restaurants.
