Rupchanda, also known as pomfret, is a popular fish in South Asian cuisine, especially in Bengali, Indian, and Bangladeshi dishes. Here's a simple yet flavorful recipe to make Rupchanda fish fry.
Ingredients
2-3 Rupchanda (Pomfret) fish, cleaned and gutted
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
Salt, to taste
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp lemon juice
Oil, for frying
Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Marinate the Fish
In a bowl, combine turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, salt, ginger-garlic paste, and lemon juice. Mix well to form a paste.
2. Coat the Fish
Rub the spice paste onto both sides of the fish, making sure it is well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 20-30 minutes (or up to an hour in the fridge for more flavor).
3. Heat the Oil
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Use enough oil to shallow fry the fish.
4. Fry the Fish
Place the fish in the pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
5. Serve
Remove from the pan and place on a paper towel to remove any excess oil. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves if desired.
