Hi. How was your day? I botched mine. I started taking violin lessons as an adult a few seasons ago. I love the challenge and enjoy the instrument. Spoiler: I'm not musically gifted. Basically, passable. The method is Suzuki, and if you're familiar with it, I am currently practicing Book 2. Today was going to be a great day. I was scheduled to play a memorized solo with piano accompaniment of Two Grenadiers. A song I love. It starts out all minor and moody and ends all bright like a national anthem. Except, I choked. I don't really know why. Got nervous. Muffed a note. Got more nervous. And kaboom! Train wreck. It was a classic horrible stage moment. At least I didn't cry. Not on stage anyway. And somehow, through the butchering I stayed on stage and finished the song. I am grateful to the audience for their supportive applause. Thankfully stage lights were too bright for me to see the pity in their eyes. Bravo to the accompanist who miraculously kept it together while I fell apart.
Thanks to my boys for picking me up at my low point. And a big thanks to Jason Prigge for the train footage.
I will keep practicing my violin and may even have future train wreck recitals. The Japanese proverb says, "Fall down 7 times, stand up 8."
I fell hard this time, but I will stand again. So I've got that going for me.
There. Now don't you feel so much better about your day?
xx
