UPDATE (TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2025): Death row inmate Benjamin Ritchie (45) was executed this morning in Indiana. The procedure began shortly after midnight local time at the State Prison in Michigan City, Indiana. His official time of death was 12:46 am. -- With his last words from the gurney, Ritchie stated: "I love my family, my friends, and all the support I've gotten. I hope they all find peace." -- NOTE: Much of the media is reporting Ritchie's last words as: “I’ve ruined my life and other people’s lives, and I’m so sorry for that night. You can’t take back what you did.” But that is not correct; Ritchie spoke those words at a Parole Board clemency hearing earlier in the month. -- For his special final meal request, Ritchie was served a "Tour of Italy" dish from the Olive Garden restaurant that consisted of a combination of Chicken Parmigiana, Lasagna, and Fettuccine Alfredo on one plate. -- This was the second execution to take place in Indiana in 15 years.
