However, his ownership of the land was not without controversy, as many locals were evicted during the process. In 1929, the castle and the surrounding lands were sold to an American art collector, Arthur Kingsley Porter.

The castle was thereafter owned by Henry Plumer McIlhenny until it was ultimately acquired by the Irish government in 1983. Since then, Glenveagh Castle has been beautifully restored and opened to the public, allowing visitors to explore its historical rooms, stunning gardens, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
