In this wonderful arrangement by Gudrun Hinze, the bass flutes toll midnight at the cemetery and death appears playing a buzzing head joint flute. Skeletons rise from the grave for their "dance of death" until the rooster crows (piccolo) signaling the coming light. The tune is mournfully finished as the skeletons and death disappear and day begins.
