Learn about the water rights adjudication process for WRIA 1 (Nooksack area)

Описание: In early 2025, the Department of Ecology will send certified mail with a summons and a court claim form to all WRIA 1 property owners within recorded water rights areas or outside public water system service areas. If you receive this mailing, our records show you may be a water rights holder or claimant. You'll need to fill out and submit the form to the Whatcom County Superior Court in person, by mail, or online within a year.

In the following years, the court will inventory all legal water rights. The adjudication process will determine who has the right to use water, in what quantity, and in what order, and determine priority of each water right during shortages. Ecology will then issue adjudicated certificates for these uses.
