There are two methods - precipitation and volitalisation.
There are example calculations of each method.
Volitalisation method is an experiment that most schools offering Advanced Higher will do and this involves heating until constant mass.
We also learn about the purpose of a desiccator, a key point here is that it prevents the reabsorption of water only. It DOES NOT dry the compound
