Sermon Notes:
Bible school student Tyler Fillmore filled the pulpit for our Sunday evening service to share a message that centers on the Christian principle of casting all anxieties and worries upon God through prayer, drawing from 1 Peter 5:7.
God's Unconditional Care (2:01-7:08): The sermon emphasizes that God cares for believers because He is their loving Father, who proved His love through the sacrifice of Jesus, even when humanity was His enemy (2:45-4:48). Just as a good earthly father gives good gifts to his children, God provides what is needed (5:52-7:08). This is illustrated with an anecdote of a child's unwavering trust in her father during a perilous train ride (7:09-8:28).
Casting All Cares (9:26-16:17): Bro. Tyler explains that "all" in 1 Peter 5:7 means every care and anxiety, big or small, should be "thrown upon" God, meaning to completely release control and trust Him. God's attributes—His eternality, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, and unchangeableness—make Him the ultimate confidant (10:47-12:02). The importance of complete trust and faith in God's answer, even if it's not what is desired, is highlighted through the example of Paul's "thorn in the flesh" (14:12-16:17).
Conclusion (17:52-19:30): The sermon concludes by encouraging believers to bring all their requests to God, trusting Him completely, and accepting His answers according to His will, not their own. The hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" is referenced to reinforce the message of prayer as a privilege (18:10-18:32).
