We found the story of Molly Mothballs in a small book written by Amy Wooller, the grandmother of one of our neighbours. Molly was a 'lady of the road' and spent her time travelling the lanes of East Sussex, selling threads and ribbons. She was often offered tea and refreshment. After her death, she was found to have owned property in London which was very valuable, but she chose a life on the road.
Milton Hide teamed up with The Tidemills Choir for an evening of live music inspired by the people, landscapes and stories of the local area.
Tide Mills Choir is an open access community choir based in Newhaven, singing an eclectic mix of "a capella" songs in multiple harmony.
Milton Hide are Jim Tipler and Jo Church of Wilmington, performing on guitar, clarinet and percussion with the occasional banjo thrown in.
As well as a set of songs arranged for the choir and Milton Hide's set of original story-based songs, the concert also featured the first ever live performance of a brand new song written especially for the choir by Milton Hide.
As part of a lottery funded project called Your Stories In Song, Milton Hide have been gathering stories from audiences throughout the South East and writing songs inspired by some of those stories. They will perform some of these songs and tell the stories behind them.
