Get a quick explanation of the word “Chromatin” here!
You will get to know about chromatin, its levels of organization, functions of chromatin, and types of chromatins-euchromatin and heterochromatin.
So, let’s begin!
▬ 📌 Chromatin
Certain proteins are responsible for the compaction of chromosomal DNA into this small space of the eukaryotic nucleus. These proteins are called histones and the resulting DNA-protein complex is called chromatin.
Chromatin is actually the collective name for the long strands of DNA about 30 to 40%, about 1 to 10% of RNA, and about 50 to 60% of proteins.
It tightly packs the DNA to fit into the cell.
▬ 📌 Levels of Chromatin Organization
There are three basic levels of chromatin organization.
✨DNA wraps around histone proteins, forming nucleosomes.
✨Multiple histones wrap into a 30-nanometer fiber containing nucleosomes in compact form, forming Heterochromatin.
✨Higher-level DNA supercoiling of the 30-nm fiber produces the metaphase chromosome.
