Education Department layoffs spark concern over special education funding in Nevada

Описание: The U.S. Department of Education has laid off nearly all of its special education staff.

According to sources, the cuts were primarily within the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

That department supports special education programs that serve millions of people across the nation.

The American Federation of Government Employees says as of Friday, more than 450 people at the agency have been laid off.

According to reports, the Education Department had about 4,100 employees when President Donald Trump took office in January.

After the layoffs over the weekend, they will be down to about 2,000.

There were firings in March, but some people were hired back.

As of Friday, workers, except for a few top officials, are being fired at the office that implements the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA.
