Описание: For about half a million dollars, the Lamborghini Huracan coupe is arguably the best look-at-me supercar money can buy in Australia, but despite its unbelievable performance, living in this nanny state means that it's hard to appreciate what it has to offer, so if you’re going to spend the majority of your time going slow, wouldn’t you rather be seen?

The Huracan Spyer is priced at around $530,000, a reasonable amount more than the coupe, for that you gain open-top freedom in a naturally-aspirated V10 supercar that will soon be extinct. The downsize - compared to the coupe - adds weight, which means you lose about 0.3 seconds from 0-100km/h, but really, would you care?

In my opinion there’s no competition between the noise that comes out of this naturally-aspirated V10 in comparison to the new-generation twin-turbo V8s coming from its Italian rival and now that you have the roof off, it sounds just that little bit more impressive.

That’s perhaps what I love most about modern Lambos. It’s unashamedly in your face and although one can say that with the Huracan, the Italians went a little bit soft on the angles and hardcore styling, this has that timeless presence that we’ve come to love from Lamborghini. Go look at a ten-year-old Gallardo now and it still looks bloody good and there’s no doubt this would be the same in a decade.

I am not 100% sold on the interior with its Audi-like instrument cluster but everything else about this Lambo feels like it should. It’s extremely impractical, sure, yet it’s for all the right reasons.

You need to drive it in strada or road mode to keep that front nose up by 40mm at all times, otherwise things will get expensive, very quickly. It stays up until you hit 70km/h but if you go over that then slow down again, you’ll need to manually re-engage it, which is a bit annoying.

In saying that, the Huracan comes alive when you dial it up to Corsa.

I am just going around some seriously twisty roads here in Mt Glorious and I cannot fault the dynamic performance of this thing. It sticks to the ground like you wouldn’t believe and despite my best attempts, I cannot seem to upset the balance of the car - so much for a compromise on rigidity.

To be fair, this isn’t the sort of car you would take to the track and it does miss out on carbon ceramic brakes as standard, something the coupe gets, and yes, of course you can argue that the coupe is better suited to the track, but then you have to ask yourself, how often do you intend to drive on the public road in your Lambo compared to a race track?

If you buy one of these, you’re buying the very best of the last naturally-aspirated supercars, and if you buy it with a retractable roof, you’ll get to enjoy that soundtrack even more.

The beauty of this roof system for me is that it works in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h, and that means you can start putting in on or taking it off at a set of lights and if it goes green you won’t look like a complete idiot with a half finished roof operation.

It’s not a hard top like the Ferrari 488 Spider, which is a few seconds quicker and works at speeds below 45km/h. But that doesn’t mean it’s noisy in here. In fact, at 100km/h, noise intrusion is pretty minimal.

Lamborghini has been overshadowed by Ferrari in recent years when it comes to performance, and that may still be the case, but if you appreciate an unmatchable soundtrack with the roof down, his thing is just superb. And if you ever happen to get bored of the noise, just take the roof off and put on your best pretend-celebrity face…
