This is a performance test of a braking resistor into a Novakon Torus Pro mill. I installed a "Mill Turn Chuck" (link below) which weighs a little more than 2 kilograms (approximately 4.5 pounds) into the spindle. This test is from 0 to 6000 RPMs then back down to 0.
Including the frame where I strike the [enter] key on the keyboard it took 54 frames to stop. At 24 FPS that means it took 2.25 seconds to take this 4.5 pound tool from 6000 RPMs to a complete stop - not bad at all! :) Presumably lighter tools would stop faster, but I'm not sure about that; check out any milling videos I post from now on to see how it works in a "real world" environment.
A quick note: this is not the braking resistor Novakon sells. I bought this one on eBay. This one has similar specs as the Novakon one, but the Novakon one has a larger diameter. For that reason I suspect the Novakon braking resistor is probably better.
