Описание: In this episode of A Sip of Chemistry, I had an exciting conversation with Dr. Terry Gullion from West Virginia University.
Dr. Gullion earned his PhD in physics at The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, where he worked under Dr. Mark Conradi, who laid the foundation for his NMR spectroscopy and solid-state NMR methodology. Today, he is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at West Virginia University, specializing in NMR method development and pulse sequence design.
Dr. Gullion is best known as the inventor of the Rotational Echo Double Resonance (REDOR) pulse sequence—one of the most important techniques in solid-state NMR spectroscopy for measuring heteronuclear dipolar couplings and determining internuclear distances in complex materials.
In this interview, he shares the story behind REDOR: how the idea was born, what inspired its development, and how it became a major breakthrough in NMR spectroscopy. We also discuss scientific creativity, problem-solving in pulse sequence design, and the evolution of modern solid-state NMR methods.
If you are interested in NMR spectroscopy, REDOR, pulse sequence development, dipolar recoupling, and the history of solid-state NMR, this episode is for you.

Hi, I'm Mojtaba Abbasi, with a Ph.D. in Chemistry. I've been working on glasses for several years. Recently, NMR has become the primary characteristic technique for exploring the glass structure. I'll post content mainly related to these two topics on this channel. I am excited about this channel and look forward to sharing exciting content here.

By the way, I have another channel named Timeless Nature, in which I share nature videography and photography content, which are my new hobbies.
