Interchain Security was one of the most anticipated shipments in the Cosmos ecosystem. It is a type of shared security and allows so-called consumer chains to borrow the security of the Cosmos blockchain. Validators on the Cosmos hub will now also validate transactions on these consumer chains, removing the necessity of having an own extensive validator set. Becuase of validating transactions on the consumer chains as well, Cosmos hub validators will earn rewards in the native cryptocurrency of these consumer chains.

However, this also comes with more operative and scaling challenges for Cosmos hub validators. Besides, is the current version of Interchain Security outdated? Would it make more sense for the Cosmos hub to become a settlement layer for roll-ups? What if the current version of Interchain Security is entirely wrong? What are Layered Security, Mesh Security, and Opt-in Security? And will Mesh Security make Interchain Security irrelevant?
