Brits 2014 Winners Room: Bastille joke about retiring after winning British breakthrough act

Do not fear Bastille fans, he may have said they are retiring but the band's lead singer Dan Smith was delivering a big, fat joke at the Brit Awards. Fresh from their success in picking up the British Breakthrough act, the man with arguably some of the best pop hair in the business said: "It's wicked. Completely unexpected. Now we can retire and give up music and go and work in McDonald's as we always planned," Dan said. Obviously he was having a laugh. They won't be serving us Big Mac and Fries anytime soon. (Note to McDonald's PR. Don't even ask.) The four-piece looked pretty dappy in the winners' room in their suits and ties. When asked about their success stateside as well as at home, drummer Chris Wood said the reception they've received has been great across the board. "Absolutely blown away by the response, everywhere we have gone," he said. Dan was at the Brit Awards last year where the band missed out on a gong, but as the four-piece were all here on Wednesday night, the win was all the sweeter. Report by Andrea Lilly.
