NYS&W 142 Returns - Great Pumpkin Trains on the Bel-Del

Описание: At the beginning of October, NYSW SY Class 2-8-2 "Mikado" #142 returned to service for the first time since 2017, operating over the rails of the former PRR Bel-Del route for Delaware River Railroad Excursions' annual Great Pumpkin trains. The 142 is a Chinese-built steam locomotive that is much newer than any steam engine around here, built in 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive & Rolling Stock works for Connecticut's Valley Railroad as their number 1647. After the NYSW ordered a locomotive similar to the 1647, only for it to sink with its cargo ship on the way to the US from China, NYSW purchased the 1647, renumbered it 142 and began operating excursion trains with it before it found its home on the Bel-Del in 2004. After a through inspection and rebuilding, the 142 returned to service for the Pumpkin trains on Saturday October 4th, 2025.

On Sunday the 12th, during the 142's second weekend since returning to the rails, Sheldon and I made the trip to Warren County, New Jersey to catch three of the four Great Pumpkin trains as they made their way south to Riegelsville from Phillipsburg and back at 12, 2 and 4 PM. With 142 leading south and Black River GP9 811 on the north end of the train, it made for a neat train to catch on this humid, windy and occasionally rainy afternoon. Since a good amount of the railroad follows River Road through Pohatcong Township, I only made titles for the locations not along that stretch of road as to not get redundant and to leave certain shorter clips without awkwardly timed captions.
