In this study of Mark 6, we explore the jarring contrast between those who think they know Jesus and those who are truly sent by Him. From the rejection in His hometown of Nazareth to the martyrdom of John the Baptist and the mission of the Twelve, this chapter challenges us to move past "familiarity" into true faith.
📜 Key Themes in This Video:
The Danger of Familiarity: Why did the people of Nazareth—the ones who knew Jesus' family and trade—take offense at Him? We look at the Greek word exeplēssonto (astounded) and why being impressed is not the same as being surrendered.
The Mission of the Twelve: Jesus sends the disciples out "two by two" with nothing but a staff and sandals. We dive into the Exodus imagery and why radical dependence is a requirement for the Gospel.
The Cost of Truth: The brutal story of John the Baptist's beheading is sandwiched between the mission of the disciples. Mark is teaching us a hard truth: Mission and martyrdom often go hand-in-hand.
The Psychology of Power: A look at Herod Antipas and Herodias—how superstition, social pressure, and subtle manipulation can lead to the silencing of God’s Word.
The Necessity of Rest: Even in the height of ministry, Jesus calls the Apostles to a "deserted place." Discover why rest isn't a luxury, but a rhythmic act of obedience.
