Neenan's friend James Ihde recommended that he listen to Beirut a few years ago, knowing that the music might inspire him to create a ballet one day. The rawness of the music allows the dancers to take on an intense theatricality and gives them the space to develop strong characters and story lines throughout the dance. "The Last Glass" refers to the song used in the seventh movement of Neenan's piece, the song "Un Dernier Verre".
