Skill Criteria for Eliciting Change Talk:
1. The clinician intentionally and strategically asks an evocative, open-ended question to elicit change talk from the client. This can include:
a. Asking for concerns over a behavior/habit.
b. Asking for the downsides to a behavior/habit.
c. Asking how the client would like things to be different.
d. Asking why the client might want to change.
2. The question does not intentionally try to elicit sustain talk or neutral talk.
3. The question does not include the clinician’s opinion, advice, or information.
