Panic attacks are one of the most frightening experiences a person can have—often mistaken for heart attacks, loss of control, or “going crazy.” In this video, I explain panic attacks from a clinical and physiological perspective, so you can understand what’s happening in your body and why it feels so intense.
This video has three main goals:
• To clarify what a panic attack is and why the symptoms feel so powerful
• To explain how clinicians differentiate between panic attacks and medical emergencies
• To share a practical, in-the-moment crisis protocol and outline evidence-based strategies for long-term recovery
You’ll learn how panic attacks involve two layers: physical sensations and catastrophic interpretations—and why it’s often the interpretation that fuels the cycle. I’ll walk through a common clinical example, explain how the brain’s alarm system works, and show how false alarms become self-reinforcing over time through avoidance and reassurance behaviors.
You’ll also be guided through a short crisis protocol designed to calm the nervous system, reduce fear amplification, and bring the brain back to the present moment—without suppressing or fighting symptoms.
Finally, I outline the core components of lasting recovery, including psychoeducation, exposure-based approaches, lifestyle regulation, and when medication support may be appropriate.
⚠️ This video is for educational purposes only and does not replace medical or psychological treatment. If symptoms are new, severe, or medically concerning, emergency evaluation is essential.
