Light gun games were becoming a rarity around the early 2000's due to changes in technology and the rise of LCD and Plasma TV's that could no longer support light guns. CRT televisions emitted infrared spectrum light that enabled light gun games to function. As time wore on, systems that could support light gun based games such as the Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3 (Time Crisis 4) failed to tap the genre to its full potential.
