Telecommunications expert Paul Budde says Telstra “lost sight” 10-15 years ago and missed out on becoming a tech company.
This comes amid questions about Telstra’s plan to cut 2,800 jobs this year as accepting defeat in the space.
“If you go back … 15 years ago, Telstra was actually fighting against the internet, against smartphones,” Mr Budde told Sky News Business Editor Ed Boyd.
“It tried to protect its lucrative phone business and basically lost sight.
“So basically, it missed those opportunities 10-15 years ago to become a tech company and it now basically remains a utilities-based company.”
