In the southwest of China, south of Kumning and Honghe, in the village "Dishi", 2000 meters up in the mountains, musicians, dancers - young and old villager gathering together - to party in their own very traditional way. A very unique ensemble of seven musicians are joined by singers and dancers in their beautiful, traditional garment.
Prof. Chen from Peking had the chance to visit and to document the music and instruments. In this Video we unveil the secret impressions of her ongoing research, to present the specific types of the seven Instruments.
Three stringed instruments: the "sixian", a four-sided lute - the "sanxian" a three-sided lute and the "erhu" two sided fiddle performing with three Wind instruments : the "dizi" a bamboo flute - the "bawu" or "gifeli", which is a bamboo clarinet-type shalmei with a copper reed - and the "caog an" or "feli" is made of homegrown reed and the vibrating lamella is part of the reed itself.
As a very special additional blend, a specific prepared leaf is played as free reed instrument.
Altogether it is an amazing sound, attracting all people to enjoy wonderful evening party.
