Electric motocross and Polaris RZR carnage day with

Описание: Riding electric dirt bikes and getting a turn in the Polaris RZR with the Payne brothers; 5 year old bike rider Harley got an invite to ride at the private 188 Raceway motocross track with the guys at ‪@stagmotorcycles2746‬ , ‪@BmxCaiden‬ and his buddy Ray (@the_life_of_ray over on instagram!)

Thanks to ‪@insta360‬ for the GO3 tiny action camera we captured loads of follow cam shots we possibly otherwise wouldn't have been able to get of Harley, Caiden, Ray and Harleys daddy all riding together and trying out all the different electric bikes (appropriate to their size of course... Harleys 6ft8 dad wasn't getting a turn on the Husqvarna EE5 just like Harley wasn't sending the Pohlbock round the track!!)

What are the pros and cons of electric bikes?

Pros:
Near silent to ride - no angry neighbours. No noise issues. No scared younger children.
Adjustable riding modes - they can be tamed down or ride to their full capacity by the click of a button... allowing a beginner to ride the exact same bike as someone who is experienced.
Responsive - there is no lag in power, it's instant and winds up the speed in a smooth gradient.... there is no snappy power band like a petrol bike.
The new HVR 65pro bike battery lasts Ray for a day at the motocross track and the adult sized Pohlbock bike lasted a good number of sessions, whereas his MCE5 would need to be charged between every session - so the battery life is for sure improving!

Cons:
You have to charge them... so you'll need a generator (so lets face it, you aren't 'fully electric')
Unlike a petrol bike, which you can just pour more fuel into and carry on riding, an electric bike will need some down time... which we've found is usually around 45 minutes for a full charge on the Husqvarna EE5 that will then last Harley approximately 30-40 minutes of riding time. Some kids are feeding back they are only achieving 15-20 minutes of riding time from a full charge. Right now the amount of ride time to the charging time is working really well for Harley, but for the older kids who are draining the battery faster it is starting to cause issues with timing their sessions on the track.

We know there are many people who prefer to hear and smell a 2 stroke bike... but with the government soon to ban the production/sale of new petrol bikes from 2035 we're going to have to look at the alternatives... or get really good at rebuilding bikes to keep our current motocross bikes running.

For the smaller riders we had out the Husqvarna EE5 (standard wheels) suitable from around 4 years old up to around 8 years old, depending on height. A smaller rider also has the option of the Husqvarna EE3 and the all new EE2 - effectively an electric PW50.

For the taller rider not quite ready for a 65cc (or the electric equivalent) we had Rays GasGas MCE5 with the upgraded big wheel kit and extended swinging arm. This is around the size of a small wheel 65cc - but with the power of the EE5. This bike would be suitable from around age 5 to age 9.

For the taller rider who is ready for a 65cc Ray also brought along his HVR 65pro - which comes up at the same size as a standard 65 and is adjustable for it's power and response - again allowing a larger youth novice rider to get to grips with motocross. This bike would be suitable from around age 7 to age 12 - against depending on height.

Next up was the Talaria Sting with a small wheel kit added ; the standard sized adult bike made smaller for the younger rider - or a smaller adult - to enjoy riding. Caiden enjoyed riding this bike but he felt it needed more speed for the large motocross track.

Then there was the LMX 161 - a similar bike to the Surron. Caiden ripped on this bike even if it was a bit too big for him. He said it was super fast and fun to ride - imagine this one with a small wheel kit fitted like the Talaria!

For the adults there was a Cake Kalk and a Pohlbock Ebock 2 - being ridden by Harleys dad who isn't exactly small at 6ft8 and he said it rode like a dream!

In between sessions on the bikes the Polaris RZR buggies came out for a shred and even took the boys for a ride around the track - much to their delight. Huge thanks to the Wayne brothers for the Polaris and track experience and to the guys at Stag Motorcycles for making this day happen and providing the bikes.
