Mutations- changes to genetic material. The mutation is an important biological process in nature. It can be helpful or harmful. For instance, the mutation creates variations in nature by providing new alleles in nature and hence helps in evolution

Two types: Gene Mutations and Chromosomal Mutations

Types of Mutation
Based on change in genotype and phenotype, mutations are of two types
1. Point mutation
2. Frameshift mutation

Point mutations are two types based on the base pair substitution
i) Transition:
ii) Transversion

Based on transcriptional property point mutation are of three types.
i) Silent mutation:
ii) Nonsense mutation
iii) Missense mutation

2. Frameshift Mutations

Ribosomes read in 3 letter codons
