Tridip Suhrud works on the life and thought of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and the intellectual and cultural history of modern Gujarat. His most recent work are the critical edition of Gandhi’s autobiography and a translation of Govardhanram Tripathi’s four part novel Sarasvatichandra.

Rita Kothari is a leading and multilingual scholar in the fields of translation, language politics and identity. Her ethnographic work is based out of western India. Kothari writes especially on local and marginalised communities. Her acclaimed works include Translating India: The Cultural Politics of English and The Burden of Refuge: Sindh, Gujarat, Partition. She has co-edited Chutnefying English: The Phenomenon of Hinglishand Decentring Translation Studies: India and Beyond. Her translations include The Stepchild (from Gujarati) Unbordered Memories (from Sindhi), Fence (from Gujarati) and the recent The Glory of Patan and Agnipariksha: Ordeal Remembered, a memoir based on 1969 Hindu-Muslim riots in Gujarat.

The Mahatm a's own writings are known to the world through books and anthologies and the 97 volumes of the Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi. His letters too comprise a vast and important archive. The renowned scholar of political science and cultural history, Tridip Suh rud, brings alive the Mahatm a's life, times and convictions by juxtaposing letters to and about Gandhi. Described as the 'greatest literary show on Earth', the Jaipur Literature Festival is a sumptuous feast of ideas.

Festival Co Directors Namita Gokhale and William Dalrymple, alongside Producer Sanjoy K Roy and Teamwork Arts, create a platform for an array of speakers to debate, discuss and present their ideas in the annual five-day programme set against the backdrop of Rajasthan's stunning cultural heritage and the Diggi Palace in the state capital Jaipur.

Past speakers have ranged from Nobel Laureates His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, J.M. Coetzee, Muhammad Yunus and Orhan Pamuk, Man Booker Prize winners Ben Okri, Howard Jacobson, Margaret Atwood, Marlon James, Michael Ondaatje, Paul Beatty and Yan Martel, Pulitzer Prize winners Andrew Sean Greer, Benjamin Moser, Colson Whitehead and Jhumpa Lahiri, Sahitya Akademi winners Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, M.T. Vasudevan Nair as well as the late Girish Karnad, Mahasweta Devi and U.R. Ananthamurthy along with literary luminaries including Amish Tripathi, Chima¬manda Ngozi Adichie, Vikram Chandra and Vikram Seth. An annual event that goes beyond literature, the Festival has also hosted Amartya Sen, Amitabh Bachchan, the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Fry, Thomas Piketty and former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai.

The Jaipur Literature Festival is a flagship event of Teamwork Arts, which produces over 33 highly acclaimed performing arts, visual arts and literary festivals across more than 40 cities globally.
