STORYLINE:
The famous “Tomatina” has celebrated its 78th edition. With 120,000 kilos of tomatoes and a capacity of 22,000 people, attendees had fun in this juicy hour-long battle.
The small town of Buñol, with a population of around 10,000, in the province of Valencia, was one of the towns affected last fall by the DANA that left more than 200 dead due to flooding.
That is why this year's slogan is “Tomaterapia” (Tomato Therapy), a perfect opportunity to laugh and enjoy themselves among the red pulp of the tomatoes they throw at each other.
La Tomatina, declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, attracts thousands of people from different countries every year, and in addition to the participants, some 45,000 people are expected to visit the Valencian town.
The origin of the festival dates back to a food fight between several children in the village in 1945.
