POEM

I sipped on awe for breakfast
and gathered the sun's rays
in the palm of my hand
to pierce through my tiny window
and spark a burning desire
to be less
and become more


The power of focus is unmistakable in the context of light. When sunlight is concentrated through a magnifying glass onto a surface, it can ignite a fire. Without this concentrated focus, the scattered energy particles wouldn't have the potency to create such an effect.

Consider your response during pivotal moments: the start of each day, instances of anxiety, or feelings of detachment in our bustling world. What actions do you take when exhaustion, confusion, or a sense of inadequacy arise? Are you going to great lengths to become something or someone you are not in order to feel a sense of purpose or feel worthy of being chosen? Remember, scattered focus may lead to self-focus and a never-ending cycle of doubt.

Instead, allowing these scattered thoughts and actions to coalesce into a focused acknowledgment of God's truth about us can ignite a transformative fire capable of burning away the clutter of striving and performance, allowing the growth of an unusual contentment in the present moment, no matter how painful it may be. Removing certain activities or possessions that consume our time and energy in a quest for purpose creates space and silence, enabling us to discern God's voice and guidance.

This is evident in scripture in Philippians 4:6-7 (AMPC) “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

May you choose to worship God for who He is today. May you, like Mary, lay at His feet and bask in awe of His presence. And may that fire that is sparked be a light for others, too.
