The snail is a fascinating creature that lives both on land and in water. Its life begins from tiny eggs, usually laid in moist soil or damp areas. These eggs take a few weeks to hatch, releasing baby snails with delicate, thin shells.
In their early stage, young snails feed on leaves, fruits, and calcium-rich substances to strengthen their shells. As they grow, their shells expand in spiral form, becoming thicker and stronger. Snails move slowly using their slimy mucus, which protects their soft bodies and allows them to glide smoothly over different surfaces like soil, rocks, and plants.
Snails play an important role in the ecosystem, breaking down plant matter and becoming a food source for many animals. Depending on the species, a snail can live for 2–3 years, and some even up to 5–10 years.
Towards the end of their lives, older snails become weaker, their shells thinner and fragile, until they eventually die naturally or are eaten by predators.
From a tiny egg to the end of its journey, the snail’s life cycle is simple yet full of ecological importance.
