This video is part of a series that focuses on generative modular ambient. In these videos I'll be using my Eurorack modular system to create meditative patches that breathe and float. I am especially interested in generative processes, allowing the modular system to "play itself" and create slowly evolving textures that have no beginning and no end.

Patch Notes:
I've been eager to try the new Make Noise Spectraphon since it was originally announced. But I was a bit unsure how it would fit in my workflow: Many of the Spectraphon demos I watched focused on the raw synthesis power of the module. As such, it was difficult to get a sense of its potential for quieter, more melodic, ambient music. But I ordered one anyways, after a bit of hesitation.
This patch was an attempt to explore the softer side of the Make Noise Spectraphon. I'm pretty happy with the results, and can't wait to play with the module some more. This video is a bit half-baked, but I wanted to share it in case other people were interested in hearing the ambient side of the Spectraphon's repertoire.
The Spectraphon essentially processes incoming audio, decomposes it, and resynthesizes it based on the spectral elements of those sounds. This makes it possible to modulate or vary the amplitude of a set of harmonics around any fundamental frequency.
In this patch, I've feed the Spectraphon a variety of guitar recordings all at once (via the Bitbox Micro) to give it a rich harmonic spectrum to decompose. Then, in Spectral Array Oscillator (SAO) mode, it is sweeping through an array of spectra, much like a wavetable. The sine-wave out is grounding the root melody. In this patch I'm playing the melody live via the Oxi One. The Oxi One is sequencing the V/Oct of the A-panel of the Spectraphon. Envelopes are from the Ornament and Crime.
The output is being fed through the Qu-Bit Nebulae for some delays and out through the Starlab for reverb. Nothing else fancy is going on here; mostly just me experimenting with the Spectraphon.
