D-Day anniversary: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge meet veterans

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spoke to veterans in Normandy as part of commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Prince William and his wife Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, sat at tables decked out in Union Jack bunting to meet veterans in the town of Arromanches, which was the closest dwelling to Gold Beach.

Throughout the day in Normandy wreaths, parades and parachute-drops have honoured history's largest amphibious assault on June 6, 1944, when 160,000 U.S., British and Canadian troops waded ashore to confront Nazi Germany's forces, hastening its defeat and the advent of peace in Europe.
