I have already cycled 1000 kilometers in Eastern Mongolia's Dornod, Khentii, and Tov Provinces--from Khalkhgol near the Chinese border, back to Ulaanbaatar. This week I am in UB resting and preparing to set out again, bound for the Altai Mountains along the western border.
This part of the trip will take me about 3 months, far off the main roads and away from the main tourist areas. I navigate without GPS (map & compass only, because why not?), and do my best never to ride a main road (this is mostly a safety issue: traffic on the main arteries into/out of UB is terrible).
Please follow along with me in (semi-)real time, and enjoy vicariously the incredible hospitality, diversity, and resilience of the Mongolian people.
