Magnitude 7.6 Tohoku, Japan Earthquake – December 8, 2025
In this video, I will be compiling earthquake footage from across northern Japan (Tohoku region) after the powerful M7.6 earthquake that struck off the coast of Aomori prefecture on December 8, 2025.
The earthquake generated Severe to borderline Violent shaking (MMI VIII – ~IX) across parts of Sanriku, and reached Shindo 6+ on the Japanese Shindo Intensity scale.
A Tsunami Warning was issued along the coastlines of Sanriku and Hokkaido with advisories for the rest of Tohoku and further north of Hokkaido. Waves of up to 3 meters maximum was forecasted in multiple areas along Sanriku and nearby epicentral regions. Aftershocks are expected to continue to affect the region.
