Discover the ancient secrets of the Thirunedunkalam Nedungalanathar Temple, a magnificent shrine steeped in history and divine legends. Located just 5km from Thuvakudi in Trichy, this temple is over 1500 years old and holds immense spiritual significance.
This sacred site is celebrated in the Thevaram hymns by Saint Thirugnana Sambanthar, making it the 71st Thevara Paadal Petra Sthalam. Originally known as 'Olimathicholai' in ancient Tamil literature, the temple faces east and boasts a beautiful tank opposite its entrance. Inside, you'll find a shrine dedicated to Lord Varadharaja Perumal.

*Divine Manifestation:* Lord Shiva here is a Swayambhu Moorthy (self-manifested).
*The Legend of Nithya Sundareswarar:* The Lord is called Nithya Sundareswarar because he appeared in great beauty to King Vanthiyathevan of the Chola dynasty.

*Unique Temple Architecture:* Unlike most temples where Shiva resides centrally in the sanctum, here the Goddess is given a place to His left, signifying their divine union. It is believed the Goddess resides with Shiva in an ethereal form.
*Kashi-Inspired Gopurams:* Above the main sanctum, there are two towering gopurams, reminiscent of those in Kashi.
