By 71 the government had begun to step in and with the new emission standards and insurance rates skyrocketing the short-lived muscle car era was over before it really got started. The GTO would have one trick up their sleeve with the 71 GTO 455 HO option. Claiming to be the fastest GTO ever built they would be supplied in very low numbers making them extremely hard to come by today. This real 242 GTO is a great example and has had a period correct 455 installed under the hood giving this menacing black beast plenty of bite. The ram air hood fits nicely and reminds people you mean business. The TH400 transmission shifts nicely with no hesitation when stomping the pedal and dropping a gear. The big corporate 10 bolt Posi- rear end is sure to lay down as much rubber as the local authorities will allow.
