🌿 Pirojpur District, Bangladesh

Pirojpur is a picturesque district in Bangladesh⁠�, located in the heart of the Barisal Division⁠�. Often called the green gem of South Bengal, Pirojpur is blessed with rivers like Kaliganga, Baleshwar, Damodar, and Sandhyanodi, and lies close to the magnificent Sundarbans.

A Glimpse of History
Before the 1600s, this region was largely submerged under the sea. Later, under the reign of Bengal’s independent Nawab Alivardi Khan, a prominent administrator named Firoz Sardar settled in the area. In the early 1700s, he cleared the forests to make way for human settlements. Tragically, he was martyred in 1753 at the Nawab’s residence in Dhaka, and the region was named Firozpur in his honor, which eventually became Pirojpur.

The zamindari was then passed down through generations, ending with Kurban Ali Sardar and his children, who continued the legacy of leadership in the region.

Modern Pirojpur

Pirojpur was established as a sub-division on 28 October 1859 and was upgraded to a district in 1984. From Dhaka, it takes around 4–5 hours to reach this green haven by road.
