In Miraj Taluka of Sangli district, there is a village named Bedag where work was underway to build a Welcome Gate in the name of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. However, some casteist individuals broke the gate, including members of the village Panchayat and administrative officials. Due to this incident, the Ambedkarite people of the village decided not to live there where the name of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar does not hold value.
Leaving that village behind, they organized a long march on foot from Sangli district to Mumbai Mantralaya to seek justice from the government.
