SWAT Basic Training- how to be a cop that cops call!

If you ask someone on a #SWAT team what they do, they may jokingly tell you they are the cops that cops call! Truth is, they’re right!

They handle situations that may require additional resources and tools beyond the capacity of a patrol division. Things like barricaded suspects, hostage rescues, active shooters, dealings with violent offenders, etc. They train hard year round, and their main goal is to always try and get the safest outcome in every situation.

Our GCSO SWAT team also offers an approved 40 hour SC Criminal Justice Academy Continuing Education Course for members of other law enforcement agencies to get their SWAT Basic certification. Each year, for the past 9 years, agencies are invited to send people from their tactical team to train for 5 days. They learn tactics like close quarter battles, room entry, hall/stair movement, manhunts, bus/vehicle assaults, K9 integration with operators, drone usage, tools to breach/gain intelligence, hostage situations, marksmanship, and tactical medical training.

After completion, they are SWAT Basic certified, and will take home skills and training that will save lives.
