"DOGRAS SPEAK"
The Dogra people are an ethnolinguistic group from the northern Indian subcontinent, primarily found in the regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. They speak the Dogri language, which is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. The Dogras have a rich history marked by their valiant and resilient spirit.
The Dogra dynasty, a prominent feature in their history, was established in the early 19th century by Maharaja Gulab Singh. Under his rule and his successors, the Dogra kingdom expanded and became a significant force in the region. The Dogra rulers are credited with consolidating various small principalities and creating a unified state of Jammu and Kashmir, which played a pivotal role in the geopolitical dynamics of the Indian subcontinent.
Dogra culture is vibrant and distinct, with traditional music, dance, festivals, and cuisine reflecting their unique heritage. Their traditional attire, including the Dogra turban and Pheran, adds to their cultural identity. The Dogras are also known for their martial traditions, with many having served in the Indian armed forces, showcasing their bravery and loyalty.
