In early June 2024, I'd planned to hike 3 different trails in the vicinity of Grenoble, France. The GR738 was the one I chose to attempt first.
The trail crosses the Belledonne Mountains from one end to the other, over a distance of roughly 80 miles.
I knew that this early in the hiking season, there would be some snow to contend with at elevations above 2,000m, but I hadn't realised just how much of it there would be. I started hiking on June 4th, and snow had still been falling in the mountains just a few days before.
In this video, part 1 of 2, you can see how the conditions get more challenging the higher I go.
