Welcome back to our forensic psychology learning series.
In this video, I will share and discuss an important topic in forensic psychology: child custody and parenting evaluations. When parents go through separation or divorce, the court often has to decide where the child will live and how parenting responsibilities will be arranged. These decisions are not only legal decisions. They are also deeply psychological.
So the question becomes very important. How can we understand what is truly best for the child?
In many cases, the court asks psychologists to conduct child custody evaluations. Through interviews, observations, and psychological assessment, psychologists help the court understand family dynamics, parenting capacity, and the developmental needs of the child.
In this lecture, we explore the role of psychologists in these evaluations and why this area is considered one of the most complex fields in forensic psychology.
This discussion is based on Chapter 6: Conducting Child Custody and Parenting Evaluations by Philip M. Stahl.
If you are interested in forensic psychology, psychology and law, family conflict, or child development in legal settings, I invite you to learn together with me through this series.
Thank you for being here and learning with me.
